Executive Recovery Coaching

Most clinicians and recovering individuals will agree that one of the most challenging times for an individual struggling with addiction and/or mental illness, is the transition from the treatment atmosphere back into their family and work lives. For that reason, LifeSkills Authorities prefers to begin the coaching relationship while the client is in treatment.  We stay abreast of the client's progress in treatment and begin assembling the Recovery Team that will help the LSA client after discharge. LSA's thorough approach can be noticed as we are present during the discharge process at the treatment facility.  We then accompany the newly recovering person back home and typically stay in the town for three (3) days.  Why?  To support the person, meet with the Recovery Team members, begin implementation of the recommended discharge plan for the treatment program, and integrate everything into the individual's customized LSA Recovery Coaching plan. It is also the time for LSA to help our client acclimate to the local 12-Step meetings (if that is part of the client's plan for recovery).  LSA is present for most of those first three days to establish a continuity (which most patients being discharged could not even fathom) and a much healthier transition to their home life.

After the initial three (3) days home, LSA begins to work with our client in an intensive manner called Executive Recovery - Crisis Coaching to ensure a smooth transition. Don't be discouraged by the name, the Crisis Coaching phase is just a very intensive level of care (typically comprised of one in-person meeting, three phone sessions of approximately 20 minutes, along with daily phone calls each week).  During this period, the newly recovering individual is also beginning to work with the other Recovery Team members and immerse themselves in a 12-Step program. This high level of support from the LSA Recovery Coach and Recovery Team members will enable the client to continue to grow in their newfound recovery lifestyle while being held accountable, nurtured, and supported at the same time.

After the LSA client has achieved pre-established goals of stability, then the Executive Recovery Coaching phase will begin and continue for the balance of the 52 weeks (post-discharge). This means that frequency of contact will 'step-down' to one session (approximately 50 minutes) per week.  We employ a variety of proven techniques to help the LSA client not only continue to heal from their primary presenting issue(s), but also greatly improve their quality of life in the process. The LSA Executive Recovery Coaching model focuses on five main areas that will provide continued success and growth for our clientele: physical, spiritual, psychological, social, and career/financial*. The LifeSkills Authorities plan may involve:

  • An accountable relationship with someone who is an advocate and not out to judge

  • Extra support and suggestions on how to successfully navigate a new lifestyle

  • Strategies for sober client entertaining and business functions

  • Relapse prevention planning

  • Work-life strategies to realistically balance successful, but demanding careers, families, and new lifestyle

  • Time management exercises and planning

  • Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) for proactive stress reduction and relaxation

  • Biofeedback Sessions to positively deal with stressors

  • Leisure tactics for how to sincerely have fun without mind-altering chemicals

  • Supportive techniques to deal with 'triggers' that previously led to dysfunctional behavior

  • Fitness evaluations and coaching for appropriate exercise solutions to attain fitness goals

  • Nutrition coaching to determine what foods and ratios lead to proper blood sugar stabilization

  • Healthy coping strategies for stressful situations that usually ended up poorly in the past

  • Prevention planning to identify work-life balance concerns and prevent falling into workaholic mode

  • Resource referrals to qualified professionals when the situation or presenting symptoms warrant the need for additional help to help make the journey of recovery a continued success

  • Management of any perceived awkwardness of a prolonged medical leave when interacting with co-workers and clients

  • Accupuncture therapies that have been shown to reduce anxiety, pain, and certain cravings

  • Executive coaching strategies to elevate your career (improve EQ, conflict resolution, reduce presentation anxiety, & other solutions)

  • Financial/wealth coaching to approach your finances proactively and with intent

The results of working with a LifeSkills Authorities Executive Recovery Coach extend far beyond abstinence from mood-altering chemicals and changing dysfunctional behavior patterns (miraculous accomplishments by themselves).  LSA Executive Recovery Coaching clients are led on a path where they can truly thrive in all areas of their life. The client bears much of the responsibliity for taking certain actions.  However, if they possess the willingness to change, we can help them achieve extraordinary results.  It will be our honor to take the journey with you or your loved one.  Contact us now to get started.

The combined experience from succeeding in the business world and recovery field, as well as their sensitivity and competency to integrate these domains, make LSA one of the most unique and practical solutions for addiction and certain mental health issues, for the accomplished professional that I have ever encountered.
